Why Companies struggle with Information Systems

Today we are looking at implementing  Information systems to a business and some of the problems businesses might face while implementing them.

Implementing an Information system is very beneficial for companies as it helps them manage their business operations and also track important aspect of their business. Implementing an Information system does come with risk and some companies do get it wrong and struggle or fail to successfully implement an Information system. Struggles of implementing Information systems are mainly caused by poor planning but there are other reasons why companies struggle with implementing an Information system.

Incorrect Project Scope

Companies can struggle with implementing and maintaining Information Systems if they get their project planning wrong from the beginning, especially if they over or under scale their project plan. They will find that managing the project will be difficult for the workers and also maintain an adequate budget.

 

Consultancy 

 It is important for companies to get right external guidance when deciding to implement an information system. Not getting a consultant or getting inadequate consultancy is a big threat to the success of the information system. Most companies lack knowledge when it comes to information systems, and they will be more likely to make the wrong decisions in choosing what systems is right for the company. 

 

Training

Inadequate training is also a big reason why some companies struggle with information systems. Employees lacking the skills needed and being not fully competent is an hinderance and will diminish the effectiveness of the information system. Companies need to train their employees properly so that they are familiar with the requirements needed to bring on the information systems. 

 

Resistance to Change 

Lack of cooperation and resistance to change is another reason why companies struggle with Information systems. Employees that are used to a system may feel a bit overwhelmed with the implementation of a new system. Incentives and reassurance will probably have to be put in place to get employees on board with the new change.
